This talk discusses smoothing exponents and decoupling beyond finite-dimensional systems. We will first review the Li-Yao-Hayashi's result, emphasizing how pinching enters the finite-dimensional proof. We then explain how those tools be replaced or modified in semifinite von Neumann algebras. Finally, we talk on its applications in decoupling, where we also obtain a generalized operator layer-cake lemma. All these results reveal that these quantum-information exponents are intrinsic in the operator-algebraic structure.
