The recruitment promotion event for Wuhan University's ‌Top-tier Mathematics Class (Sino-French)‌ and ‌Self-strengthening Mathematics Class‌ was successfully held

To further forge the era's pioneers who are brave enough to scale new heights and lead innovation in the field of mathematical and physical sciences, and to cultivate leading mathematical talents with a solid foundation in mathematics and physics, an international perspective and outstanding leadership skills, Wuhan University held a recruitment promotion meeting for the Sino-French Mathematics Elite Class and the Mathematics Self-improvement Class in the demonstration zone for cultivating Top-notch innovative talents on September 4th. The meeting was attended by He Xiaoying, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Department, Xu Xu, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office of the Undergraduate School, Fan Huijun, Dean of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Liu Shanshan, Deputy secretary of the Party Committee, Miao Shuang, Wang Maofa, Lyu Xiliang and Liu Wei, vice deans, as well as professional teachers from the Sino-French Class and the Self-improvement Class. The meeting was presided over by Vice President Wang Maofa, and over 100 students from all departments of the university participated.

Wang Maofa extended a warm welcome to the teachers and students present. He pointed out that this presentation sincerely invites students who are passionate about mathematical research and aspire to become leading figures in this field to join our Sino-French Mathematics Elite Class and Mathematics Self-improvement Class, and explore a new journey of mathematics together.

Fan Huijun elaborated on the development of the mathematics discipline and the measures taken by the college for talent cultivation. He pointed out that mathematics, as an important basic discipline, continuously drives the development and progress of the scientific society. He emphasized that the Sino-French Mathematics Elite Class and the Mathematics Self-improvement Class are demonstration special zones for cultivating top-notch talents at the university level, aiming to foster outstanding and innovative talents who are dedicated to mathematical research and strive for excellence in the field of mathematics. He called on the students to always keep their original intention of the essence of mathematics and devote themselves to the study and research of mathematics with the greatest enthusiasm. He hopes that students who are passionate about mathematical research will actively apply for the Sino-French Class and the Self-improvement Class in mathematics, and expresses that the college will fully support the construction of the Sino-French Class and the Self-improvement Class.

Xu Xu pointed out that the school has further enhanced its ability to independently cultivate top-notch innovative talents by deepening the mechanism for cultivating top-notch talents and implementing new measures for cultivating internationalized top-notch innovative talents. He emphasized the need to fully build the Sino-French Mathematics Elite Class and the Mathematics Self-improvement Class in the school-level demonstration area, and encouraged the students to carry forward their mission, be determined to conduct mathematical research, and contribute to building a strong country in science and technology.

He Xiaoying expounded on the long history of Sino-French educational cooperation and the development process of international exchanges at Wuhan University. She pointed out that the Sino-French mathematics class established in the 1980s has cultivated a group of outstanding mathematicians, and its educational achievements have been highly praised by the international mathematics community. She emphasized that academic cooperation between China and France should be further strengthened and new areas of international exchanges should be actively expanded. She stated that the International Exchange Department will fully support the construction of the Sino-French class and hopes to cultivate mathematics leaders with broad vision and international influence in the new era, achieving greater success in the international mathematics community.

Miao Shuang comprehensively explained the construction background, training program, training characteristics and assessment and selection mechanism of the Sino-French Mathematics Elite Class, and elaborated on the enrollment and selection plan of the Sino-French class as well as its future international development path. Meanwhile, Lyu Xiliang gave a comprehensive introduction to the establishment background, training characteristics, and selection and assessment plan of the Mathematics Self-improvement Class, and elaborated in detail on the training ideas for undergraduate scientific research.

During the interactive communication session, teachers and students engaged in a lively discussion on aspects such as the selection and assessment, learning methods, mathematical research, further education paths, and internationalized cultivation of the Sino-French Mathematics Elite Class and the Mathematics Self-improvement Class. This lecture not only strengthened the students' understanding of the cultivation of top-notch international talents in mathematics, but also enhanced their belief in pursuing mathematical research in the future.

Fan Huijun delivered a concluding speech. He expressed his sincere gratitude to all functional departments for their strong support and warmly welcomed students who are passionate about mathematical research to actively apply for the Sino-French Mathematics Elite Class and the Mathematics Self-improvement Class. He has high expectations for the outstanding students with an innovative spirit. He hopes that the students can scale new heights in the vast world of mathematics, keep moving forward on the road to excellence, and strive to become the pioneers of The Times who lead innovation and mathematical leaders with international influence.
