Our School Holds Special Alumni Symposium on Postgraduate Education

To further advance student career development guidance and build an alumni exchange platform, the Fibonacci Heart-to-Heart Talks and Career Planning Advisory Studio of the School of Mathematics and Statistics held an alumni symposium on education on the afternoon of March 23. Three alumni—Liu Hongyan, head coach of the Mathematics Competition Team at Xiangyang No. 5 High School; Jia Suqi, teacher at Wuhan University Affiliated High School; and Lu Yiran, teacher at Wuhan No. 1 High School—were invited back to their alma mater for sharing and guidance. Drawing from their personal experiences, they shared insights on job hunting in the education industry, personal competency preparation, and career development advice for students of our school.

At the symposium, the three alumni shared their experiences from different perspectives. Alumnus Liu Hongyan emphasized the importance of resume writing, recommending that students systematically study high school mathematics textbooks, enhance problem-solving skills and knowledge reserves through extensive practice, while also focusing on improving both their external image and internal qualities. Alumnus Jia Suqi started with the job-hunting timeline, outlining key time nodes for different recruitment types. She advised students to obtain necessary certificates such as teaching qualifications and Mandarin proficiency certificates, actively participate in teaching internships at middle schools to accumulate teaching experience, and strengthen specialized training for written tests and interviews. Alumnus Lu Yiran focused on how to filter effective information from the plethora of job postings, understand the exam content and format in advance, and prepare adequately. She detailed the scope of assessment for mathematics subject knowledge, professional aptitude tests, and comprehensive educational knowledge, and shared methods and techniques for exam preparation.

During the interactive Q&A session, students asked questions actively. The three alumni patiently addressed queries regarding talent recruitment for teaching positions, career progression paths for teachers, and the working hours of competition coaches, based on their practical experiences.

To help students better understand themselves, learn about the industry, and plan their career paths, and to further strengthen the connection between the school and its alumni while promoting the sharing and inheritance of alumni resources, Deputy Party Secretary Wang Siming presented letters of appointment as "Student Career Navigators" to the three alumni, appointing them as career mentors for postgraduates of our school.

This event was a special symposium organized by our school to enhance employment guidance for postgraduates in the "National Excellent Teacher Program." It provided a valuable opportunity for students to engage in face-to-face communication with outstanding alumni from the education sector, helping to deepen their understanding of the education profession and better define their career development plans. The experience shared by the three alumni illuminated the path forward for fellow students and encouraged them to contribute to the cause of education.
