The 19th Hubei Provincial Postgraduate Teaching Competition for College Students Concludes Successfully

On December 5, the 19th Hubei Provincial Postgraduate Teaching Competition in Mathematics was successfully held. Undertaken by the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Wuhan University and the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, this event aims to take the classroom as a platform to encourage postgraduates to consolidate their professional basic knowledge; take the activity as a starting point to stimulate postgraduates' enthusiasm for engaging in education and teaching; and take the competition as a foundation to cultivate a group of outstanding teachers who can apply their learned knowledge to carry out high-quality teaching work.

Huang Beina, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee and Director of the Postgraduate Work Office of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wang Siming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Wuhan University, Wang Li, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and other guests were invited to attend the event. Teachers including Huang Zhenghua from Wuhan University, Han Shuxia from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Han Hua from Wuhan University of Technology, Li Na from Central China Normal University, Yan Qing from Hubei University, and Jiang Jie from the Institute of Precision Measurement Science and Technology Innovation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences served as judges of the competition.

On behalf of the undertaking units, Huang Beina delivered a speech. She emphasized that the Hubei Provincial Postgraduate Teaching Competition in Mathematics for College Students has gone through 18 sessions since 2006, attracting active participation from postgraduates of many colleges and universities. It plays a significant role in promoting the cultivation of postgraduates' teaching abilities in Hubei Province and building a communication platform among various colleges and universities in the province. She pointed out that the Postgraduate Teaching Competition in Mathematics should actively explore and innovate, promote learning through competition, and strengthen the work of fostering virtue through education.

Subsequently, 11 contestants from 6 colleges and institutions, including Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Central China Normal University, competed on the same stage.

In the self-selected content teaching session, the 11 contestants competed by teaching middle school mathematics topics such as circles, basic inequalities, geometric sequences, polynomials, and dihedral angles. The contestants had clear teaching ideas, well-prepared courseware with both pictures and texts, vivid and interesting explanations, and flexibly grasped the rhythm of the courses.

In the random lesson presentation session, the contestants showed quick thinking and flexible adaptability, demonstrating the solid professional foundation and excellent teaching literacy of postgraduates in colleges and universities.

The judges made comments from aspects such as teaching design, teaching methods, and classroom effects. They fully affirmed the contestants' teaching demeanor, clarity of thinking, and integrity of teaching plan design. At the same time, they pointed out the shortcomings of each contestant and put forward constructive suggestions. Among them, the judges emphasized the importance of integrating theory with practice, suggested expanding abstract knowledge horizontally and connecting it vertically, and proposed recommendations such as elaborating mathematical concepts in detail, selecting topics with individuality, and integrating teaching concepts into teaching content.

In the end, Chen Wenjing and Zhai Shuting (from Central China Normal University) won the first prize with their outstanding performance; 4 contestants including Jiang Haoyue won the second prize; and 5 contestants including Deng Peichen won the third prize. On behalf of our school's postgraduates, Wen Xingyue won the second prize and Chen Junwei won the third prize.
