From April 12 to 13, the Wuhan University 2025 Postgraduate Table Tennis Competition was successfully held at the Zhuor Gymnasium. The event attracted 293 participants from 33 schools and departments. Our school sent a team of 8 students to compete in the Mixed Team and Men's Doubles events. After intense competition, our table tennis team delivered an outstanding performance, winning the Mixed Team championship. The pair of Zhou Ruikang and Hao Zeming secured the bronze medal in the Men's Doubles, marking the best historical result for our school in this tournament.
In the Mixed Team event, our team fought their way through tough matches. During the group stage, they faced the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the School of Life Sciences, and the School of Resource and Environmental Sciences. Against the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, our team won comfortably with a 3:0 victory, leveraging their overall strength. The match against the School of Life Sciences was highly tense; although our men's singles player lost the first match, our women's singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles players performed excellently, leading to a narrow 3:2 win. In the match against the School of Resource and Environmental Sciences, the opponent forfeited the mixed doubles due to insufficient male players. Our women's singles and women's doubles players maintained steady performances, securing another 3:2 victory and advancing to the knockout stage as group winners.
In the knockout stage, our team encountered strong opponents including the School of Philosophy, the Cross-Disciplinary Science Institute, and the School of Cyber Science and Engineering. In the quarter-finals against the School of Philosophy, men's singles player Zhou Ruikang adjusted his strategy under pressure to achieve a comeback victory. The men's doubles pair Zhou Ruikang and Li Yihan demonstrated seamless coordination, winning in three straight games. In the decisive mixed doubles match, the pair Hao Zeming and Zhou Yurong displayed formidable skill, helping our team secure a hard-fought 3:2 victory and advance to the semi-finals. Facing the powerful Cross-Disciplinary Science Institute in the semi-finals, our women's doubles pair Chen Haoran and Li Fangxin won the first point. The men's doubles pair Zhou Ruikang and Li Yihan staged a remarkable comeback from 0:2 down to win three consecutive games, ultimately leading our team to a 3:1 victory and a place in the finals. In the championship match against the School of Cyber Science and Engineering, Zhou Ruikang won the first men's singles match, and the men's doubles pair Zhou Ruikang and Li Yihan secured another point. In the decisive mixed doubles, Hao Zeming and Zhou Yurong performed excellently, winning 3:0 and securing the mixed team title with an overall 3:2 victory.
In the Men's Doubles event, the top-seeded pair Zhou Ruikang and Hao Zeming received a bye in the first round. They defeated a pair from the School of Economics and Management in the second round. Although they lost to the eventual champions in the semi-finals, they bounced back to defeat familiar opponents 3:1 in the third-place match to claim the bronze medal.
It is worth mentioning that five of the six main players on our table tennis team are graduating this semester. Demonstrating unity and a tenacious fight for every point, they brought honor to our school. After the competition, the team members expressed that this victory was not only the result of individual and team effort but also a reflection of the enduring spirit and legacy of our table tennis team. This championship marks a new beginning, inspiring more table tennis enthusiasts within our school to stay determined and continue striving for excellence.
We extend our warmest congratulations to our table tennis team for their outstanding achievement and look forward to their continued success in future competitions, bringing further glory to our school.
