Wuhan University Students Achieve Outstanding Results in the 16th National College Student Mathematics Competition Finals

From April 11 to 13, 2025, the finals of the 16th National College Student Mathematics Competition, organized by the Chinese Mathematical Society, concluded successfully at Zhejiang Normal University. This year’s competition reached a record scale, attracting over 320,000 mathematics enthusiasts from 1,223 universities across 32 regions of China. After intense competition, 1,254 mathematical talents from 352 universities advanced to the finals.

Students from Wuhan University delivered excellent performances in the Senior Mathematics Group, Junior Mathematics Group, and the Non-Mathematics Category, winning a total of 25 national awards—5 First Prizes, 13 Second Prizes, and 7 Third Prizes. Wuhan University ranked seventh among all universities nationwide in the Mathematics Category, tied for second place in the Senior Mathematics Group, and led all universities in Hubei Province, fully demonstrating the university’s outstanding achievements in nurturing top innovative talents. Meanwhile, Wuhan University received the “First Prize for Outstanding University Organization Award,” further highlighting the university’s leadership in competition organization and talent cultivation.

In the Senior Mathematics Group finals, Fang Zijin from the School of Mathematics and Statistics earned an impressive fourth place nationwide and, together with Wang Kexiang, Xu Jingsu, and Gong Runmin, received a national First Prize. Students Shang Enlong, Mai Haoren, Xu Zhuoyue, and Ding Tiansong won Second Prizes, while Cheng Shimin and Wu Yuqiao received Third Prizes.In the Junior Mathematics Group finals, Gu Yifan won a national First Prize; Zhang Haolin, Chen Tanrui, and Zhang Zhaozhen received Second Prizes; and Chen Muwei received a Third Prize.In the Non-Mathematics Category, Mao Kexiang, Liu Chaoyang, Liao Zhixin, and Li Guanming from the School of Physics and Technology, along with Liu Peng and Wu Jinxuan from the School of Economics and Management, earned Second Prizes. Yu Ziyu and Huo Chengze from the School of Physics and Technology, Deng Zhiwen from the School of Electrical and Automation Engineering, and Yang Rongqin from the School of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering received Third Prizes. The outstanding achievements across multiple schools fully reflect Wuhan University’s distinctive approach to talent cultivation, characterized by “solid foundations, broad perspectives, and strong interdisciplinary integration.”

As the most influential mathematics competition among Chinese universities, the National College Student Mathematics Competition upholds the principle of “promoting learning and teaching through competition.” By leveraging intelligent training platforms and big data analytics, it continues to inspire young scholars’ innovative potential. Wuhan University’s remarkable performance in this year’s competition is not only a clear demonstration of its students’ mathematical literacy and comprehensive abilities but also a reflection of the university’s success in advancing digital-intelligence education reform and strengthening practice-based talent development.

Looking ahead, Wuhan University will continue to follow the concept of “leading with digital intelligence and pursuing excellence,” further optimizing intelligent training mechanisms for academic competitions, promoting synergy between curriculum systems and digital practice platforms, and building a knowledge-graph-based competition training system, thereby providing stronger support for cultivating interdisciplinary talents with global competitiveness.
