To further promote inter-university academic exchange and explore new models for cultivating top talent, on September 19 the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Wuhan University Deputy Dean Miao Shuang led a delegation of 30 faculty and students from the 2024 China–France Elite Mathematics Class to Renmin University of China for academic exchange. The event brought together faculty and students from the China–France elite mathematics classes at Wuhan University, Renmin University of China, and University of Science and Technology of China to hold in-depth discussions on academic research, academic development, and talent training, jointly exploring new pathways for educating mathematical talent.

The exchange was divided into two sessions. The student session took place in the lecture hall of Renmin University’s School of Mathematics. Students attentively listened to undergraduate presentations from Renmin University on research experience, policies for guaranteed postgraduate recommendation, and the development of their mathematical modeling association, and then engaged in discussions on these topics. During the student presentation segment, representatives from the three schools spoke in turn, creating a strong academic atmosphere. Among them, Wuhan University China–France Elite Mathematics Class student Mou Site delivered a presentation titled “The Polynomial Methods: A Powerful Tool for Combinatorics and Number Theory,” systematically explaining how basic linear algebra serves as a bridge in research on combinatorics and number theory and demonstrating solid professional foundations and logical reasoning skills. In the open-exchange period, students enthusiastically discussed topics such as academic frontiers, study methods, and disciplinary interdisciplinarity, broadening their perspectives and deepening their understanding through intellectual exchange.

At the faculty session, Professor Ma Xinan from the University of Science and Technology of China shared his school’s experiences and notable achievements in cultivating internationally oriented talent in their China–France elite mathematics program. Party Secretary Ke Yuanyuan of Renmin University of China provided a systematic introduction to the management model of the elite mathematics class and the international education resource platform they have built. Professor Miao Shuang of Wuhan University gave a detailed report on the entire process of establishing and cultivating talent in the China–France elite mathematics class. Faculty from the three institutions conducted in-depth discussions on constructing a China–France elite mathematics talent cultivation system and reached a consensus that inter-institutional cooperation should be further deepened and a regularized exchange mechanism established to jointly improve the overall quality of elite talent training.

During the visit, the delegation went to the Palace Museum for a patriotic education practical activity. By touring the grand halls and precious cultural relics, students gained a profound appreciation for the breadth and depth of China’s outstanding traditional culture and its weighty history, further strengthening cultural confidence and national sentiment. This activity represents an important practice of integrating cultural education into the entire talent-training process, helping students form broader academic horizons and a deeper sense of responsibility.

This exchange was not only a breakthrough of institutional barriers but also an innovative practice in educational models. By facilitating deep dialogue among students from diverse academic backgrounds, the event effectively expanded students’ cognitive and developmental frameworks and exemplified the “solid foundation, strong interdisciplinarity, emphasis on the humanities, and internationalization” educational philosophy in practice. Students broadened their perspectives through cultural engagement, deepened their understanding in academic exchange, and forged shared values through mutual learning, fully demonstrating the significant effectiveness of cross-disciplinary integrated education.
Looking ahead, the school will further expand its international cooperation network, construct a high-level open academic platform, and continue to improve the elite talent cultivation system to provide solid support for strengthening the nation’s fundamental disciplines and to contribute to the vigorous development of China’s education and scientific and technological endeavors.
