On February 3, the Bilateral Academic Committee Meeting of the Sino-French Research Center for Mathematics at Wuhan University was successfully held. Attendees included Academician Zhang Pingwen, President of Wuhan University; Academician Zhang Weiping from Nankai University; Professor Marc Rosso from Université Paris Cité; Professor Patrice Le Calvez from Sorbonne University; Professor Stephane Nonnenmacher from Université Paris-Saclay; Professor Jean Dolbeault from Université Paris-Dauphine; Academician Shen Weixiao from Fudan University; Professor Liu Jianya, Vice President of Shandong University; Professor Zhang Zhifei from Peking University; Professor Ma Xinan from the University of Science and Technology of China; and Professor Ma Xiaonan from Nankai University, among other distinguished scholars. The meeting was held online and chaired by Professor Zhang Weiping.

President Zhang Pingwen briefly reviewed the over forty years of deep-rooted collaboration between Wuhan University and its French partners in mathematics, emphasizing the current shift in international collaboration models from a top-down approach to a bottom-up approach. He affirmed the positive achievements of the two Sino-French mathematics classes at Wuhan University and the University of Science and Technology of China in talent cultivation and outlined an overall framework for the future development of the Sino-French Research Center for Mathematics. Zhang stated that, as the Chinese lead institution of the Center, Wuhan University would actively promote in-depth cooperation between the two sides in talent development, scientific research, and academic exchange. He also put forward forward-looking and constructive suggestions regarding the Center’s operational mechanisms, cooperation models, and future development direction, establishing a solid foundation for its smooth operation and long-term growth.

Professor Marc Rosso introduced the establishment and preliminary discussions of the French Academic Committee and shared specific proposals from the four French universities to advance the collaboration.

During the open discussion session, members of the Sino-French Academic Committee engaged in in-depth discussions on key topics such as collaboration mechanisms, talent cultivation models, academic activities, and scholar exchange mechanisms, putting forward many constructive suggestions. Both sides expressed their commitment to continuing to strengthen cooperation and to developing the Sino-French Research Center for Mathematics into an important bridge for mathematical exchange between China and France.

Professor Zhang Weiping affirmed the consensus reached regarding the Center’s direction and objectives and expressed three expectations for future work: first, to deepen talent training mechanisms, innovate teaching models and curricula, and enhance the overall quality of talents; second, to strengthen cooperation in scientific research, expand collaboration channels and depth, and promote the transformation of research outcomes; and third, to broaden academic exchange and enhance the dissemination and influence of scholarly achievements.
Participants agreed that the successful convening of this meeting further consolidated the cooperative framework of the Sino-French Research Center for Mathematics, laying a solid foundation for deeper cooperation in the field of mathematics between China and France. Moving forward, the Center will continue to be dedicated to cultivating outstanding mathematical talent, promoting high-level collaborative research, and advancing international academic exchange, thereby contributing intellect and strength to the development of mathematics in both countries.
