On the afternoon of April 3rd, the finals of Wuhan University's 2025 "Huo Ju Cup" Student Volleyball Tournament commenced grandly at Zhuoer Gymnasium. After days of intense competition, our school's women's volleyball team delivered an outstanding performance to claim the championship, successfully defending their title. Team member Huang Jing was honored as the “Most Valuable Player,” while Li Jiayue was recognized as the “Best Middle Blocker.” The men's volleyball team fought valiantly to secure fifth place, marking a significant improvement over last year's seventh-place finish. Vice President Song Baoliang and leaders from the university's administrative departments attended the event and presented awards to the winning teams and players. Li Qin, Secretary of the Party Committee of our college, along with Deputy Secretaries Wang Siming and Liu Shanshan, were also present to cheer on the players.
As a campus tradition spanning over four decades, this year's "Huo Ju Cup" attracted 28 men's teams and 32 women's teams, culminating in over 200 intense matches over 18 days. The journey for our women's volleyball team in this "Huo Ju Cup" was far from smooth sailing. After losing to the School of Surveying and Mapping and the School of International Education in the group stage, they advanced to the knockout rounds as the third-ranked team in their group. Facing adversity, they swiftly adjusted their tactics, defeating powerhouses like the School of Journalism and Communication and the School of Literature one after another, ultimately securing a spot in the finals against the School of Electronic Information.
In the final match, our women's volleyball team delivered an outstanding performance with seamless teamwork. Facing the formidable attacks launched by the Telecommunications School's middle blocker, who leveraged her height advantage, and the solid defensive line built by their libero's multiple precise saves, our players remained composed. They broke the deadlock through solid tactical coordination, disrupting the opponent's first pass with precise serves, tearing through their defense with fierce attacks, and simultaneously holding their ground with ironclad defense. Through relentless back-and-forth exchanges, the players demonstrated tenacious fighting spirit and seamless coordination. After four grueling sets, they ultimately prevailed with a 3-1 victory, claiming the championship title through sheer dominance.
Our men's volleyball team also demonstrated remarkable resilience. They staged multiple dramatic comebacks throughout the group stage and knockout rounds, ultimately securing a commendable fifth-place finish. This achievement represents a significant improvement over last year's seventh-place ranking, fully showcasing the team's spirit of relentless determination and relentless pursuit of excellence.
